Nudibranch canvas print
Nudibranch in Malta
Nudibranch (or as they are also called – sea slug) resting on tugboat St. Michael – one of the 3 wrecks scuttled in Marsascala bay, Malta.
These are a fairly rare type of nudibranchs found in Malta. These white nudibranchs generally prefer southern part of the island and are more often seen there. Their colorful bodies look like they are made for catching divers attention. But divers should pay quite an amount of attention and patience to actually spot them. Thanks to their tiny size, most of the nudibranchs in Malta remain invisible to scuba divers, especially the novice ones. Usually, the size of a nudibranch does not exceed 5cm. However this species was slightly larger and measured approximately 7cm in length.
A number of scuba diving wrecks that surround Malta is always a good place to look for nudibranchs. A very good example would be the Um El Faroud wreck, that is known to be a home to some purple nudibranch that you can normally see there any time of the year.
Small grass that starts growing on a rusty pipes, doors or any other object on a wreck is a perfect place for any nudibranch. Be on the lookout next time and you might get rewarded with a colorful nudibranch!
