Description
A closeup photo of a white sea slug playing around underwater on a sea grass. The photo is taken on one of the numerous wrecks that surround the Maltese islands. Generally, scuba diving wrecks are the best place to look for white nudibranch or sea slug in Malta. It is of course possible to spot them outside of wrecks, but the chances are smaller.
The sea slug
The forms and shaped that nudibranchs take are just out of this world. Thanks to their tiny size, fragile and soft body, even the smallest current make them wave. They stretch, curve, wave, roll allowing for extremely different underwater photos. No two nudibranch or sea slugs are the same underwater, even if they look so at first!
Taking photos of a white sea slug (or any other sea slug!)
Taking underwater photographs of nudibranch or a sea slug is quite a challenge! First and the most important – a photographer need to have a macro lens on. The higher the focus distance – the better in this case as these creatures are tiny. Second – a very good buoyancy is a must, as with a macro lens, every movement will instantly take your subject out of frame. Third, and probably the most important part – take as much pictures as you can. The sea slug will not stay in place and will constantly move with the water flow. This will make you subject out of focus on majority of your underwater photos. Use sports mode on the camera if one is available. Lastly, practice more and you will be rewarded with that super nice shot. Nothing helps more in taking good underwater photos than a ton of practice!
