Tugboat Rozi

History of Tugboat Rozi

Tugboat Rozi or MV Rozi is a tugboat built in Bristol in 1958. Later in 1981 she was sold to Malta and started operating as tugboat in the Grand Harbour. Subsequently she was decommissioned and scuttled in 1992 for underwater safari tours. These tours do not operate anymore, so this is a purely artificial reef for scuba divers nowadays. This makes her one of the oldest man-made scuba diving wrecks in Malta. Together with the other wreck in the area – the P29, Tugboat Rozi is one of the most popular wrecks in Malta.

The wreck

The wreck of MV Rozi lies on a sandy bottom at a depth of around 34 meters. She is approximately 35 meters long and 6 meters wide. One distinct feature of the wreck is the mast the rises to approximately 20 meters below sea level. The wreck can easily be seen as a whole in a single dive. It is also a good idea to combine this wreck with the Cirkewwa Arch, that one can see on the way back from the wreck. Please refer to the dive sites maps that are available on the site.

Luckily before scuttling Tugboat Rozi has been properly cleaned and hence is available for penetration. However, there are not many openings in the wreck and all of them are quite small with the exit point visible at all times. This makes the wreck perfect for scuba diving penetration training.

A webcam has been affixed couple of meters from the port side of the wreck in summer 2022. However, the stream is not yet publicly available on the internet.
