Santa Marija grotto is part of the Santa Marija caves system. This is the first place that you will visit during your dive. The boat will anchor right opposite the entrance to the grotto. The depth there is roughly 8 meters so expect some pleasure boats on the spot and snorkelers.
The grotto itself stretches about 30 meters inland getting shallower as you come closer to the end. There is a possibility to surface at the very end of the grotto but there is generally not much to see there. There is also very little space left between water and overhanging rock so I would not recommend doing it. Since the grotto is not that long, you can always see your exit from it.
While proceeding into the grotto, keep an eye out for some marine life that might rest on the sandy bottom. You can spot some shrimps or an octopus if you’re lucky! The most enjoyable part of diving the Santa Marija grotto is when you head out of it. Thanks to the shallow depth and crystal clear waters, you would be presented with beautiful views. As you move away from the grotto, more light will face you from the entry point, creating beautiful blueish scenery. This is a great opportunity for some photos and is exactly where this photo has been taken.
As you proceed with your dive, you will encounter a cave where you can surface, and another one with a Z shaped exit. Finally at the end of your dive you would have a chance to meet and feed colonies of sanded Sea Breams that patiently wait for divers with some bread. This is another great opportunity for some cool underwater pictures.
