P31 Patrol boat
P31 Patrol boat was a Kondor class minesweeper that served in a Maritime Squadron of the Armed Forces of Malta since 1992. In 2004 was bought by the Malta Tourism Authority. She was scuttled as an artificial reef in 2009 near the island of Comino, close to the famous Blue Lagoon. To date P31 remains the only wreck around the island of Comino.
The wreck is approximately 50 meters in length and lies on a sandy bottom at the depth of 20 meters. Thanks to the shallow depth, the wreck is suitable for all levels of divers, including the Open Water qualified. The wreck has been properly cleaned and prepared for divers, hence penetration is available. It is possible to swim through the whole wreck from the stern to the bow in one go. The wreck is also visible from Google Maps.
The dive is an easy one, allowing you to explore the whole wreck in one go. Normally, there is not much to see around the wreck. However, there is a chance to see some marine life on the wreck itself. Take great care when surfacing and always follow your boat captain advice. Boat traffic is very heavy during summer months right above the wreck.
