P29 wreck canvas print
P29
Description of the P29 patrol boat wreck
P29 was bought by Malta from Germany in 1997 and has been used as a patrol boat since then. She was decommissioned and scuttled as an artificial reef 10 years later, in 2007 when the wreck was cleaned and windows were removed, same as most of the other wrecks in Malta. Together with the Um El Faroud wreck, P29 is now one of the most popular wrecks in Malta. There is also another wreck in Cirkewwa, that lies close to P29 – Tugboat Rozi.
Diving the wreck of P29
The wreck lies approximately 150 meters from the shore. There is a yellow marker buoy on top the wreck in summer months. The wreck can get very busy during summer month. Cirkewwa is probably the most popular dive site. Majority of dive centers chose Cirkewwa as their weekend dive site. Bear that in mind and arrive earlier to secure a parking spot! There is a small anchor about halfway to the wreck which is a good landmark that proves you are on the right track. Generally, single tank is enough to dive the P29 wreck. However please be aware that the depth can reach 35 meters on the sand next to the ships bow. Good news is that most of the divers would not need to go that deep – most of the dive can be done on a 25 meters mark. Highest point of the wreck is only at 12 meters. That makes the wreck a very popular place among the freedivers.
