MV Karwela

The story of MV Karwela

MV Karwela used to be a passenger ferry that did the Grand Harbour tours. In 2006 it was scuttle together with the other wreck in the area – MV Cominoland. Both wreck joined the company of a 3rd wreck that was already there, MV Xlendi. This time everything went well and both shipwrecks were scuttled successfully.

The wreck

If there is something that MV Karwela is especially famous for – it’s the staircase. This is probably the most famous staircase in all Malta. This photo shows exactly it. However, there are more to this wreck that deserves any diver’s attention. One of the unique features is the wooden floor that is still there. The only another wreck that i know of that had wooden floor is Imperial Eagle, which is now destroyed by the storm. Another cool feature of MV Karwela is huge hall/cafeteria with multiple small windows. The light penetrating those windows create a very special atmosphere inside. This is a definitely a great place to stop and snap some pictures.

The dive

The dive is pretty easy, yet one still has to pay attention to decompression limits due to maximum depth that can reach+ meters. The wreck is located about 50 meters from the shore. It is hard to miss it thanks to a number of divers and free divers that you will likely find there. There is also information table at the parking spot showing all 3 wrecks and compass bearings to reach them.

The canvas prints are made from FSC certified wood which ensuring a long-lasting and high-quality product.

The canvas (or as it is sometimes called – slim canvas) has an approximately 2cm / 0.8″ thick wood stretcher bar. This provides a weight of approximately 300-350gsm/110-130lb and a thickness of 350-400 microns giving you a sturdy and durable product.

Hanging kit is of course included as well!

All canvas prints are shipped in protective packaging and strong boxes, so your new wall art will arrive safe and strong.
