Imperial eagle canvas print
Imperial eagle wreck
Imperial eagle used to be a passenger ferry between Malta and Gozo. It was scuttled for the divers pleasure back in 1999 off the coast of Qawra. The length of the wreck is about 45 meters, and it used to carry 70 passengers and 10 cars.
This is a deep dive and best performed by boat as the wreck is sitting at quite a distance from the shore. Maximum depth is about 42 meters while the deck is at about 32 meters. The wreck is open for penetration, however considering the depth you might better spent your time enjoying the deck. Another option is to combine this dive with the Christ statue that is located next to the Imperial eagle wreck. The statue has been moved there from St. Pauls island in year 2000.
The storm in winter 2020 damages the wreck and it is now in a deteriorating state. Yet it’s still a very interesting dive site and definitely worth visiting if you get a chance to.
