History of the Hephaestus wreck
The Hephaestus wreck, once a mighty oil tanker, met its fate decades ago. The wreck now serves as an artificial reef, providing a home for diverse marine life. Hephaestus wreck which ran aground off Qawra, Malta on 10 February 2018 and was subsequently scuttled as a dive site off Xatt l-Aħmar, Gozo on 29 August 2022.
The wreck is located approximately 100 meters from the shore. Resting upright on a sandy bottom at a depth of about 46 meters, making it a TEC dive wreck for those that want to crawl the bottom at the wreck.
There are also 3 other shipwrecks scuttled off the coast of Gozo, literally meters apart from each other:
- MV Karwela, former passenger ferry, famous for it’s staircase.
- MV Xlendi, a former operating between Malta and Gozo.
- MV Cominoland, yet another passenger cruise ship operating under Captain Morgan Cruises.
Tips for Divers:
- Dive Level: The Hephaestus wreck is suitable for divers with intermediate to advanced experience due to its depth, ranging from 25 to 40 meters.
- Visibility: The visibility at the site is generally excellent, providing an optimal underwater viewing experience.
- Wreck Penetration: Experienced wreck divers may explore certain parts of the ship’s interior, but caution is advised, and proper training is essential.

A: Length
Place the end of the tape beside the collar at the top of the shirt (Highest Point Shoulder). Pull the tape measure to the bottom of the shirt.

Lay the t-shirt down on a flat surface and measure it from left to right across the chest, about 2cm below the arms.
