Common dark stingray in Ghar Lapsi
It is always a please to see any kind of ray on a dive. Common dark stingray or a torpedo (electric) ray or any other ray (bull’s ray – fingers crossed!) – they’re all beautiful.
This dark colored stingray was resting on a seabed when we found him. I would assume that he spent quite some time sleeping there as the ray almost all covered with sand. His eyes were the only part that was visible, and that’s we spot him. Normally rays do not like to interact with divers and this stingray was not an exception. As soon as he figured out he’s surrounded by divers, he slowly ascended a bit a swam away from us, leaving nothing but this photo.
Ghar lapsi is a known dive place to spot a stingray, so keep your eyes opened on your next one. There is also the largest cave system in Malta that is located in Ghar Lapsi. Most likely your dive will start and end at the entrance to the cave if you would be using the guided diving option.
